Dream Way To Write A Firefox Extension

March 4th, 2009 · No Comments · news

Most of us like to do experiments with our browser. Evolutionary browser, Firefox gives us the ability to extend our own browser as we wish. But still it's hard to develop a browser extension without knowing some browser internals, compiling, and building extensions. As solution to this problem Aza Raskin is dreaming about new way of writing browser extensions.

The add-ons community for Firefox is one of the largest, most vibrant sources for innovation in the browser. If you want to affect people, to reach them and make a difference in their daily lives, the Firefox extension platform is hard to beat, with over a billion downloads of Firefox add-ons in total.

I want to be able to participate in that community, but I find it difficult.

You see, I’m a Web development and not a software developer in the traditional sense. Things like compilers, linkers, and build steps are scary. I prefer the Web and how it allows real-time feedback and instant gratification. I prefer its super-low barrier to entry. I do web development because that’s where it’s possible for me to translate my thoughts into reality.

The thing is, there are hundreds of thousands of developers just like me.

They represent an amazing and untapped wealth of innovation, of vision towards the future user experiences of the web. Imagine if any 8th grader who can write a web page could fundamentally enhance the browser, or just make the web a better place for his/her Mom.

Events with SOA - Using Apache Synapse and WSO2 ESB

February 21st, 2009 · No Comments · EDA, SOA, wso2, wso2-esb

As Gartner explained in this article, concept of event-driver design is becoming more widely used to reduce costs and increase the responsiveness. Also SOA is popular among enterprise as a solution for complex integration challenges because of it provides ways to efficiently reuse and integrate existing assets based on service  portfolio. Even though SOA and EDA share some common characteristics, they are two different paradigms. With the popularity of SOA and EDA, organisations needs to choose the better approach to meet their needs. But, Enterprise Service Bus(ESB) allows organisations to implement both the SOA and the EDA concepts by giving more flexibility to use best characteristics of the both approaches to solve complex integration challenges.

In the two articles "Fusion: Eventing with SOA - Introduction" and "Fusion: Eventing with SOA Part 2 - Eventing using Synapse and WSO2 ESB" , Asanka Abeysinghe describes how you can utilize the power of SOA and EDA using WSO2 ESB.

Need for New Global Conventions

February 19th, 2009 · No Comments · news

On Feb. 9, an LTTE suicide bomber killed herself inside a crowded transit camp maintained by the government for displaced Tamil civilians in northern Sri Lanka. She killed and injured scores of Tamil men, women, and children awaiting transport to safer areas. A day later, the LTTE shot and killed 19 civilians as they attempted to cross over to government held areas. The incident was not widely reported in international media, perhaps due to its low political appeal. However, it is absolutely imperative that we resolve—as a global community—that no rebel group or government be allowed to commit such crimes against humanity again.

WSO2 Carbon, Unified SOA Middleware Platform

February 17th, 2009 · No Comments · osgi, web services, wso2, wso2 bps, wso2 carbon, wso2 wsas, wso2-esb

WSO2, the open source SOA company, announced the release of WSO2 Carbon, the industry's first fully componentized service oriented architecture(SOA) platform on 9th February 2009. WSO2 Carbon which is developed based on OSGi technology, is the foundation for componentized  middleware products like WSO2 ESB, WSO2 BPS and WSO2 WSAS. WSO2 Carbon enables an SOA platform comprised of integrated middleware components. With the flexibility provided by WSO2 Carbon platform, WSO2 Carbon platform user can deploy only the components they need and reduce the complexity, project time and money.

Even though I have involved in WSO2 Carbon project, the best person to talk about the WSO2 Carbon is WSO2 CTO, Paul Fremantle who is the mastermind behind the WSO2 Carbon platform. In his blog post about composable server architecture Paul talks about the WSO2 Carbon, the foundation for WSO2 BPS 1.0, WSO2 ESB 2.0, WSO2 WSAS 3.0 and WSO2 Registry 2.0.
